I downloaded a demo copy of your Cad Viewer 4.5 program yesterday & after installation it was running perfectly. Trying to run the program today, I get the mesage :

''Memory Allocation Error''
''Cannot allocate background bitmap''

The program then tells me an error has occurred & exits.
I have uninstalled the program, rebooted, re-installed it, rebooted again & still the problem persists.
The program is great apart from that, especially the GP4 viewing function, as we have a lot of scanned drawings in that format & to be able to quickly view & print them is a huge help.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Does the allocation error happen when trying to load a particular drawing or GP4? If it happens when loading a GP4, how big is the GP4? Also how much memory does your machine have?

thanks

Hi Paul,

The allocation error happens before loading any drawing at all.
My machine has 1Gb of RAM & I have tried the program with fewer than normal applications going.
I am just curious about the bitmap part of the message, could there be some memory address conflict ?
Thanks for the reply.

Cheers,
Mike

Mike,

I am just curious about the bitmap part of the message, could there be some memory address conflict ? The "cannot allocate background bitmap" at the start is unusal (actually i don't think we have ever seen it before). The software is simply trying to allocate a background screen buffer. The software inquires on the size of the display, and then allocates a buffer the same size as it. Normally this should not require a huge amount of memory, certainly 1GB will easily handle it. And obviously the software was previously working on your machine so I do not know what has changed.
Are you running 2 monitors?
Is the resolution of your screen very large?
If you want to take it further, we would supply a debug version of the software to try and determine possible causes.

best regards,
Paul G

Hi Paul,

I think the problem is being generated by the video card and/or the drivers used by my computer. The card is an Nvidia Quadro 4 NVS (64Mb AGP), running a single 20" LCD monitor at resolution 1600 x 1200, on a Compaq D530 using Windows 2000.
The graphics appears to ''lose'' its current driver (Forceware version 77.18) when I right mouse button click on screen & go into properties. It displays a message telling me the driver is not supported by the current version of windows. This is obviously a problem related to my machine & nothing to do with your software.
I have tried your program on another (better) computer & it works perfectly.
Thanks for your help & looks like a trip to the IT department for me.

Cheers,
Mike
