Reading a 33k+ record file produced by Arcv2CAD 4.5, and after 35 minutes I aborted it. System showed nearly 100% processor usage during that time (confirmed by my laptop fan running at full blast) and there was regular disk activity.

But I had no way of telling whether real work was going on as there is no progress bar.

I see from a posting in 2005? that there used to be a progress bar and I feel that would be helpful.

Or is it that CADViewer didn't even make it to the point where it could get the data necessary for a progress bar?

Ken

Hi Ken,

Just realized that I did not read you post closely enough. A drawing with 33,000 records, obviously is going to be a very large drawing. What is the file size?

thanks
Paul G

Hi Ken,

There should be no problem reading a 33k file. It should read almost instantaneously. If it is a 33MB file then it may be a different story. If the drawing is AutoCAD 2004+ format then CAD Viewer does some initial work prior to the progress bar appearing. This should still be less than 30 seconds. (I just tried a 35MB file here and it completely loaded in 30 seconds.) However...

A known situation that can cause a severe slowdown is if a large drawing consists of point marker blocks with multiple attributes attached. This will cause a big slowdown in both CAD Viewer and AutoCAD, and for a such a file at 35MB it may not even load in either software. There are strategies to take in such a situation, but we should probably first of all establish what type of data you have there.

Hi Paul

DXF file size ex Arcv2CAD using Autocad rls 14 as the output style, is 95MB.

OCAD reads the file just fine. So I can use the file OK. Just a nuisance not being able to quickly view the result of Arcv2CAD.

I can't create the DXF file as Autocad 2004+ as Arcv2CAD just gets to 80% progress and sits there.
