Hello,

I have cadviewer 4.0 A.051 installed on a windows 2003 terminal server. Some users can't open the cadviewer. The application closes with the following error message: ERROR: Could not find the work file directory (=c:\cadviewer32\t). Yes, that's right. It's installed under c:\cadviewer4.
I checked the configuration file %USERPROFILE%\windows\cadviewer.ini. Everything is fine here. I used this ini file to start the cadviewer with another account and it starts fine.
It looks like cadviewer, isn't parsing this ini file, when starting it with several user accounts. But not with all, with some accounts it works fine.

Any hints???

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Andreas

Hello Andreas,

Yes, I think your theory is right that the software cannot find cadviewer.ini.

Note that CAD Viewer versions 4.0 A.059 and above expect cadviewer.ini to be located in the CAD Viewer installation folder, whereas versions prior to that required cadviewer.ini to be located in the user's WINDOWS folder (e.g. c:\windows). So please check the exact version number of the software.

BTW the last archived version of CAD Viewer 4.0 is CV 4.0 A.155, it is here:

I'll let you check on the exact version number that you are running before trying to give any further advice.

Hello,

that's strange. I checked the version number. It is 4.0 A.051.
I ran several tests. I copied a "running" cadviewer.ini in the installation directory and changed the directory entries. No effect.
I tested the same in c:\windows. No effect.
The cadviewer uses the file under %userprofile%\windows.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Would you mind downloading a trial version CAD Viewer 5 and installing on a terminal that you are having problems with? Work has been done in CAD Viewer 5 to make configuration simpler for networks / terminal servers, and mostly you won't need to do anything special at all regarding configuration. Anyway I think it would be worthwhile to try it out. If it works then maybe you can mount a case for upgrading to CV 5. (The other good reason is that CAD Viewer 5 supports AutoCAD 2007 drawings, which CV 4 does not.)

Best regards,
Paul Guthrie

Hello Paul,

I'll ask my customer, regarding the update.
Is it possible to install the cadviewer 4 and 5, parallel on one server?

best regard,
Andreas

Andreas,

Yes, the 2 versions can co-exist. Just install to different folders.
