Hello

CAD2Shape 3.0 (A13) crashes when I try to convert a DXF file (40M) to ESRI shapefiles. Settings:

Mode: Polygon
Entities: Hatch, Polyline, Circle, Block, Global check for 'islands'
Attributes: ID, Layer, Color (Pen#), RGB, Handle
Filters -> Layers: Match Status in CAD File, Output a separate shapefile for each selected Layer
Filters -> Pens: Translate all pens
Filters -> Region: Whole model / whole terrain

It seems to me that "Output a separate shapefile for each selected Layer" is the problem. When I select only one Layer and the convert, it works. But it's really costly to do the conversion this way, as I need to convert all Layers.

If you need, I can send you the DXF file I use.

Thanks.

Hello

CAD2Shape 3.0 (A15) crashes again when I try to convert a DXF file (4.5M) to ESRI shapefiles. Settings:

Mode: Polygon
Entities: Hatch, Polyline, Circle, Block, Global check for 'islands'
Attributes: ID, Layer, Color (Pen#), RGB, Handle
Filters -> Layers: Match Status in CAD File, Output a separate shapefile for each selected Layer
Filters -> Pens: Translate all pens
Filters -> Region: Whole model / whole terrain

Again it seems to me that "Output a separate shapefile for each selected Layer" is the problem.

If you need, I can send you the DXF file I use.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks, we received it now. A software update CAD2Shape 3.0 A.16 here (http://www.guthcad.com/download_cad2shape.htm) should fix it.

Thanks again for reporting the problem and sending the example drawing.

Thanks,

Tried it, but still have the problem. CAD2Shape crashes when converting the layer "Naturschutzzonemitpuffer" of file "Kulturlandplan_070510.dxf". Settings:

Mode: Polygon
Entities: Hatch, Polyline, Circle, Block, Global check for 'islands'
Attributes: ID, LAYER, RGB, HANDLE
Filters -> Layers: Match Status in CAD File, Output a seperate shapefile for each selected Layer
Filters -> Pens: Translate all Pens
Filters -> Region: Whole model / whole terrain
Settings: Output Format "ESRI Shapefile (SHP)", Close unclosed Polylines, Map unfound fonts to font SIMPLEX.SHX, No Projection, Degrees

The layers "Heckendundfeldgehölze", "Wald", "Gewässerbachfluss" get converted correctly.

Best regards

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your feed-back. Yes, we missed the 'Global Islands Check' setting which was causing the problem.

Please find a new software update here which should fix the problem.
CAD2Shape 3.0 A.17 (http://www.guthcad.com/download_cad2shape.htm)

The update also has a couple of new Entity selection options for Polygon shapefiles which may be useful to you.

Ignore Hatch boundaries

The boundaries of Hatch entities within a drawing are typically defined by other entities within the drawing (e.g. closed polyline, etc.) If the option is checked then any such associated boundary elements will be ignored, thus avoiding the creation of duplicate polygons (i.e. one created from the Hatch and one created from the associated boundary elements of the Hatch.)

Ignore Dashed line style boundaries

If this option is checked then any boundaries that have a 'Dashed' line style will be ignored for the purpose of creating polygons.
