Hi There,

WE have been using Cad Viewer 4 on one of our workstations now for sometime and are very happy with the product and looking to upgrade our existing VoloView 3 systems to Cad Viewer 4. (due to the stability issues with VV)

However one feature I can't seem to find in Cad Viewer is the ability to Zoom in and out of drawings with the middle mouse button like you can in Volo.

A lot of our cad drawings have multiple drawings contained within one file and sometimes its essential to zoom in and out of drawings easily and quickly. Obviously you can do this with the standard zoom tools but sometimes you want to point your mouse zoom in, zoom out quickly.

Is this possible with Cad Viewer?

Hi showcard,

Good question! Two answers.

1. If you are talking about the scroll wheel which doubles as the middle button on many mouses these days, then the answer is that the current software does not support/make use of the scroll wheel. It is HIGH on our 'to do' list, and I am hopeful that we will have support for it in a software upgrade in the 2nd quarter. In the current software the button press of the middle button however does have a zoom in/out function as described in (2) below.

2. The middle button in the current software has a zoom in/out function. It is started by selecting either of 'View | Zoom In (factor)' or 'View | Zoom Out (factor)'. (Same as the toolbar icons with magnifying glass containing the '+' or '-' signs).

When the 'Zoom In' (+) function is selected, the middle button acts as 'Zoom Out' (-)
When the 'Zoom Out' (-) function is selected, the middle button acts as 'Zoom In' (+)

best regards,
Paul G

Thank you for your quick responce.

Yes that's exactly what I meant, using the middle scroll wheel to zoom in and out, as in VoloView/AutoCAD when you move it up or down it zoom's in and out.

Ok thanks for the suggestion I will pass that information on to the guy using the software.

As you have this as a planned feature in a future version, if we purchased additional licences of this software before that upgrade was released would we be en***led to a free upgrade or are we better of waiting until you release this new version?

Thanks

All upgrades (including major upgrades) are free within 12 months of purchasing the software. So, yes. (Or even if we completely blow the schedule, we would still guarantee the upgrade to you.)

Great news :)

I must stress to anyone looking for a good Cad Viewing that the guthrie program is so much better than Volo View.

We originally purchased 4 copies of Volo as Autodesk were doing a pricing deal and thought it was a good option and seeing as we use AutoCAD 2004 and nothing else was compatible at the time.

However we found that VoloView 3 was just as buggy as AutoCAD 2004 and that Autodesk were not very intrested in supporting or fixing problems in their product.

On 2 of the workstations using VV3 now we suffered the "invisible" cursor fault when using their fiddly plot system (unlike your own nice and easy print options) For example in VV3 if you use print it prints the whole thing out and you have little control over what it prints, you have to use Plot if you want to pick specific parts of a CAD to print, but on 2 systems as soon as you get here the cursor goes black so you can't see what your picking and have to guess.
(and changing the background from black to white makes no difference as when you get into the plot window it seems to revert it to black anyway!)

When reported to Autodesk they were more intrested in our video drivers and the system itself, the fact it happend on 2 different makes of computers with 2 different graphics cards and one running Windows 2000 the other XP meant very little :/
Also that it worked fine for a few weeks and then suddenly started doing this.... needless to say after doing what was suggested which was updating our graphics drivers and replacing the graphics card the fault still existed and their ended our communication :/

We even completely wiped all trace of VV3 of the machine and after re-installing it still picked up some settings from somewhere (even after following their clean uninstall guide and hacking the registry to pieces!) ... followed a complete re-install of the machine, worked for 2 weeks and there the problem was again :/

CadViewer on the other hand is easy to use and reliable and has none of the bloated VV3 features not to mention CV4 is cheaper :)
Unlike VV3, CV4 does what it says on the tin and we will be looking to upgrade our software in the very near future :)

Thanks for your help.
