Hi,
I have problems with MTEXT blocks - see attached jpg.
Is there a best practice to get good results?
i.e. should I choose another font in ACADE

David

Hi,
The font used is the romans.shx I have attached my copy to this with '.txt' added.
The MTEXT block is standard format 15 height.

Hi,
I upgraded to 5.0 A.70 and got a better result but lost the MTEXT centre option - it has gone to left.
Any suggestions?

David,
Thanks for sending the drawing. We have located the cause of the error. It will be fixed in a software update early next week.

Hi,
This item is fixed in the latest software update (CAD Viewer 6.0 A.13 or above.) Download here. (http://www.guthcad.com/dlviewer.htm) As a matter of interest the display problem was caused by new (and apparently undocumented) MTEXT paragraph formatting codes in AutoCAD 2008 drawings.

Hi,
Should not this fix roll down to version 5 - also touted as reading ACAD 2008 files?
I understand not incorporating the hidden layer view feature to V5 but surely MTEXT blocks are an integral part of the ACAD file structure and have been for some time. Therfore if this fix does not reach V5 it should no longer be labeled as reading ACAD 2008 files
Not happy about this but looking to upgrade to V6 at some point - just for the hidden layers.

Hi David,
Should not this fix roll down to version 5 - also touted as reading ACAD 2008 files?Yes, I can understand that it is a little frustrating from you point of view. Unfortunately once we release a new major version the previous version is not updated. As probably know we give free upgrades for 12 months from the date of purchase. So if you purchased CAD Viewer 5 in the last 12 months then you are entitled to a free upgrade to CAD Viewer 6 and will get the fix that way. If it was prior to 12 months that means you have already used up the 12 months of upgrades that we promised, but of course you are still entitled to upgrade at the upgrade price. (I am pretty sure that we did not tout CAD Viewer 5 as being able to read ACAD 2008 files prior ACAD 2008's release, and since it has not been released for 12 months, it means that if you purchased the software on the basis of such a tout, it must also have been within the last 12 months, and therefore you are entitled to a free upgrade to CAD Viewer 6!) Also I think that you have to agree that it is not that CAD Viewer 5 cannot read AutoCAD 2008 files, but that you discovered a particular text alignment problem. Prior to your report we had no knowledge of the problem. It appears that some newly introduced (as of AutoCAD 2008) and undocumented MTEXT alignment codes are the cause.
MTEXT blocks are an integral part of the ACAD file structure and have been for some time.Yes, of course, and CAD Viewer 5 certainly reads MTEXT, and also does align MTEXT correctly using AutoCAD's documented MTEXT alignment codes. What we are talking about here is some undocumented alignment codes that have apparently crept in to AutoCAD 2008.
Note also that the text can be reasonably manually corrected within CAD Viewer 5 using Text | Touchup | Move Text. So there is a workaround.
You know, I wish we could release perfect software, but realistically we can only do the best that we can!

Hi,
We do not qualify for free upgrade - the original purchase was 4.5 - 5.0 was a free upgrade to us.
The Tout part is from the install splash which if memory serves announces 2008 compatibility.
I'm working on the purse holder to get the upgrade.
Cheers
David
