What happened to single user command line support

We have had CadViewer since 4.5 as a single license - There is and has only been one Cad SEAT in the Company!!!! CadViewer 4.5 and 5.0 has always had command line batch printing - we have used it almost daily!!

Why on earth have you improved the software to remove the only feature we regularly use - command line batch printing for a single seat. This is not a 'NEW' feature and not worthy of your change. I assume because you have introduced direct PDF printing - I,m sure anyone who needed this already had it covered, we certainly had.

NOT A HAPPY BUNNY !!!!!!!.

A £27 upgrade becomes £135 almost double the cost of a new single seat, just to retain a feature we took for granted in your product.

Very Disappointed!

Hi,

The 'NEW' tag in reference to the command line support is actually referring to the fact that CAD Viewer 6 allows any number of drawings to be passed to it (e.g. using *.dwg) to batch print or batch convert, whereas in previous versions there was a limit of 240 drawings.

The typical single user licensee usually only has the need to view and/or print the occasional drawing, maybe daily, maybe less. On the other hand the command line options will typically be used by a decent sized company, or in a production line situation. Hence our decision to remove it from the single user license. We think that it is fair enough that we charge a higher price for software which is used mainly by larger users such as companies, and a in regular production situation (e.g. you mentioned your company uses the software for batch printing almost daily), as compared to a typical single user licensee.

However we do take your point that the way your company has used the software in the past has been that it has only been used on a single machine, and that you would have no use for a 10 user license.

To hopefully ameliorate the situation we have introduced a 'CAD Viewer 6 Batch Command' license. It will have the full command line support, but will be restricted to installing CAD Viewer on a single machine (per such license.) The UK pounds pricing will be UK 149 pounds, compared with the 10 user license of UK 325 pounds. We are also making a special upgrade offer available only to existing CAD Viewer 4.5/5.0 licensees, to upgrade to that license for UK 99 pounds (or if you already upgraded to CAD Viewer 6 standard single user version, then a credit of amount can be applied making it 99 - 27 = 72 pounds.)

Hi,

Better than nothing I suppose

We have always called CadViewer with the following switches
/p c:\forpdf\*.dwg

Where all files required to be printed are loaded into the 'forpdf' folder prior to running a batch file containing the print call.

The *.DWG ability has always been present but our file count was typically below 100 and is likely to remain so - I for one would not be bothered by the 240 limit you say was present.

David

The change was not implemented arbitrarily just to say that it is a 'NEW feature', but was the result of several requests from users who have or have had the requirement to go past the previous 240 drawings limit. (e.g. one company uses the software to do regular backups of their drawings folder to TIFF, with the number of drawings in a single folder being in the thousands.)

Hi,

Surely then rather than remove a feature that had long been present (and people had become accustomed to having) create a super product (similar to Markup) that has enhanced batch handling for customers who require it and I would assume be happy to pay a small premium for the enhancement. I still think you went about it the wrong way but it's done so that's an end to it.

(Just an observation the way we have our system setup it's easier to print one drawing using the the batch print call than load it to CadViewer and print it by hand. In fact my employer had CadViewer before I joined them and in over a year I have never used CadViewer to print other than via the command line call.)

Your online purchase system doesn't seem to have the option to upgrade the batch command and get the £27 discount! (we bought cadviewer 6 upgrade in the last week)

How do you require us to place the order?

I would like to get this done today if possible.

Cheers
David

David,

Yes, thanks for your comments. I agree that we probably went about it the wrong way.

In the online form, just put a note in the 'Comments' section. "Please apply 27 pounds credit for upgrade to CAD Viewer 6.0 already purchased." (The full price will still show in the form, but when we process the order we will apply the credit.)

Thanks!
