Hi,

To get text to display the easy way (and a unique capability of CAD2shape as far as we know), use the option to explode text to polylines.

1. Check 'Labels' on the main CAD2Shape window.
2. In the 'Entities to Translate' dialog, set the 'Output text as:' option to 'Polyline' (see pic top).

The resultant shapefile will display the CAD text in Arcview without any further steps. Actually it is a polyline rendering of the text, but the source text is also attached as a data field to each corresponding shape. (see pic bottom)

A second method to display text in ArcGis is to use its auto-label command.

Thanks.

I got the text to show up, but since I have to do the shapes for the polylines in one step and the text in another step, is it possible to not do it separately?

Or do I then have to combine the two in ArcGIS or Arcview?

Or can the product combine the two together?

Hi,

Yes, the current software cannot do it in a single step. Or rather, it can be done in a single step using the software in command line mode, however you will still finish up with 2 separate shapefiles. When read into ArcView / ArcGis they will be 2 overlaying layers, so effectively combined, at least from a display perspective.
