Cad viewer 4.0 when installing, fails. I have administrator rights, on a windows xp pro system. Always fails at the same point. It fails when it gets to copying file c:\cadviewer4\hebyad.sym.

I get a window labeled CAD Viewer 4.0 vwsetup4.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x0012a20e" referenced memory at "0x7c80c792". The memory could not be "written".

OK to terminate
CANCEL to debug

Hi,

I am not sure what may be causing that.

'Hebyad.sym' is the last file to be installed. So the error may actually be occuring some place after that. The setup is doing some final work such as editting ini files, making some registry settings, and creating shortcuts.

I would suggest downloading the latest maintenance version software which is CAD Viewer 4.0 A.149 here:

http://www.guthcad.com/dlviewer_beta.htm

See if that install is successsful. If the same problem occurs, try running the setup file again from Start | Run and put the switch /DEBUG after it. I.e.

vwsetup.exe /DEBUG

This will cause some extra popups to display (just click 'OK' on each popup) during the setup and it might give a clearer indication as to exactly how far it gets before the error.

Are you able to install the software on a different machine?

best regards,

I tried both the current release and the beta release CAD Viewer 4.0 A.149 (English version). The both did the same thing.

These dialog boxes didn't come up at the same time, the top was the last box clicked before the lower error box appeared.

I'll try on another computer later this afternoon.

I have installed cad viewer on another machine, but still can't on my machine. The only difference is that this machine had the demo version of you software installed.

Layne,

Thanks for that updated info.

Would you mind downloading yet another setup here, which has extra popup messages in it?

http://www.guthcad.com/download/x/vwsetup4d.exe

It will display a whole heap of 'debug message' dialogs. Just click 'ok' to each. Again we just need to find out how far it gets, to work out what is causing the crash. We have not had anybody else report this problem, but there have been some changes to the installation script of late, so maybe one of those changes is causing a problem, and it would be useful to find out positively what the problem is.

thanks,
Paul Guthrie
