What are “CAD Viewer Concurrent User Network” licenses, and how do they differ from standard CAD Viewer licenses?
CAD Viewer Concurrent User licensing allows multiple users to use the software, but is restricted to how many of those users may use the software at the same time (i.e. concurrently.)
CAD Viewer Concurrent User licenses may only be installed to a single organization network (typically a single server) at a single physical location. Any number of users on the network may have access to the software, however the number of such users that are permitted to use the software at the same time (concurrently) is restricted to the number specified in the Concurrent License that was purchased. CAD Viewer Concurrent User licenses are available starting at a minimum of 5 concurrent users.
CAD Viewer standard (or 'per user') licenses on the other hand count each desktop computer, or notebook/laptop computer, or workstation on the network, in the total count of users for the license.
CAD Viewer Concurrent User License Example:
A company has a computer network where 50 employees need to use CAD Viewer. However it is deemed that only a maximum of 10 users would ever need to use the software at the same time. In that case a 10 user Concurrent User license would meet the licensing requirement of the company.
CAD Viewer Standard License Example:
A company has 50 employees that need to use CAD Viewer. The usage is spread between users on the company network, some standalone desktop computers, and some notebook computers. In this case the standard 50 user CAD Viewer license meets the company's requirements. It allows the software to be installed on all 50 employees computers. It also has no restriction on how many users may use the software at the same time.
When is it more economical to license the “CAD Viewer Concurrent User” license as opposed to standard (per user) CAD Viewer license, and vice versa?
The CAD Viewer Concurrent user pricing uses a fixed pricing ratio of 2 to 1 as compared to the equivalent user number CAD Viewer standard licenses. For example, the 10 Concurrent Users CAD Viewer license (price = 1190
USD*) is 2 times the price of the standard 10 user CAD Viewer license (price = 595 USD*). Thus, at a minimum, for the Concurrent User license to be more economical than the standard license the total number of users should exceed the maximum number of concurrent users by a ratio 2 to 1. Note that the CAD Viewer standard licenses include significant price breaks for site licenses with multiple users, so this also needs to be taken into account when working out which license is going to be the most economical. The simplest way to work out which license is going to be the best value for your organization, is to directly compare the pricing of both types of license for the number of users and concurrent users that you have. In the Concurrent User License example given above the 10 Concurrent license (serving 50 employees) costs USD 1190*, whereas a standard 50 user license costs USD 1950*. So in that case the Concurrent License is the most economical. As a very general rule if there a lot of users that may need to use the software only occasionally, then the Concurrent license will be the best value, whereas if many users need to use the software on a regular basis then the standard licenses will be the best value.
